Wouldn’t it be great if you find abundant hunting spots just by walking out your backdoor? Well, you can if you decide to live in one of these places we think are the best hunting towns in the country.

Salmon is popular for having, you guessed it, tons of salmon. If fishing isn’t your cup o’ tea that’s okay, because there’s plenty of hunting to be had here too. Big game hunters can revel in the abundance of mountain lion and bear up for grabs, while sharpshooters can take aim toward the sky to bag blue grouse and chukar. Elk and whitetail deer also roam about the surrounding territory. There’s something for just about every hunter in this fishing town.

Wisconsin is home to too many record-breaking bucks to count, as well as over 700 Boone and Crockett trophies, so it’s no surprise that one of its towns shows up on this list. Appleton is sort of a mecca for white-tailed bucks who grow to abnormal heights. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the town is only an hour away from Nicolet National Forest, which harbors a wealth of bear and grouse.

Pheasant hunters flock to Lewistown to hunt down these copious fellows, especially the ring-necked variety. The town is also home to assortments of grouse and partridges. The best part is, most of the hunting grounds are publically owned so it’s not difficult to find a place to unload. There aren’t a ton of reasons a person might move to Montana, but this place makes a pretty great case for it.

Quincy, ILImage may be NSFW.

Quincy is ideally situated close to Illinois’ Golden Triangle where large bucks seem to pop up no matter where you go. The only downfall is the area gets pretty flooded with both professional and amateur hunters alike during peak season, so you’ll have a lot of competition. If that doesn’t put you off, it’s also pretty affordable to own a home in this town.

Columbus, OHImage may be NSFW.

Okay, so Columbus is technically a city rather than a town, but we think it might just be worth forgoing country living for the access it provides to great hunting. Ohio is one of the prime whitetail spots in the nation and Columbus sits right near the heart, putting you in the perfect spot to easily reach Coschocton and Licking. It’s also a short drive from Wayne National Forest, some of the best public land the state has to offer.

Grand Junction, COImage may be NSFW.

Availability and abundance of good hunting opportunities is important when choosing a home, but it should also be absolutely freaking beautiful whenever possible too. That’s why we put Grand Junction on the list. Not only is it within a two-hour drive of prime hunting spots in all directions, geese and ducks that fly in for the Colorado River and thousands of elk and deer, but it’s also a stunningly beautiful place to live.

Rapid City, SDImage may be NSFW.

Rapid City makes the list thanks in large part due to its richness of hunting opportunities year-round. The mountains provide copious amounts of elk, mule deer and turkey while the surrounding prairie land is full of coyotes, pronghorn and prairie dogs ripe for the picking. Plus, it’s South Dakota so it’s cheap to live there, which means you’ll have more money to spend on gear.

Toccoa, GAImage may be NSFW.

Toccoa might seem like the odd man out on this list, but it’s a personal favorite. It’s proximity to the Chattahoochee National Forest makes it a great spot for outdoorsman who love both hunting and sports. The area is ripe with mostly small game like rabbits and wild hogs, but you’ll also find plentiful deer and bears here too. If you like to fish, the surrounding lakes are filled to the brim with trout and crappies.
